“Joe's house on the 4 x 4 beach in Corolla is amazing! If you are looking for a relaxing, calm, and serene, vacation spot, you cannot find anything better! The house seemed brand new: everything was clean, tidy, and welcoming. It was a dream come true to stay at the beach yet off the beaten path away from commercialization and at one in nature with the wild horses. Whether you will be were relaxing in the hot tub, laying out by the pool, four-wheel-driving on the beach, or playing games with the family, you will enjoy making lasting memories.”
“I can't say enough about Joe's home! From the layout, to the decor, to the clean feeling, it's the perfect home to relax and have a wonderful vacation. Being able to drive your vehicle to the beach and set up was such an easy experience! Having the pool, hot tub, and outdoor area was perfect after a beach day. Joe was such a great help and answered any questions we had. We will definitely be back!”

OBX to Sea
“Absolutely wonderful beach getaway. My husband and I wanted a nice family vacation before all our kids went back to college/school. The house fit our family of 7 very comfortably. No complaints with the beds. The kitchen had everything we needed when preparing all our meals. Plenty of space for everyone to do their own things. The pool and hot tub were an added bonus. The drive to the beach took no time at all and we even walked it on some days too since it was so close. The amount of wild horses we saw on a daily basis was amazing!! All in all we had a wonderful vacation.”
“We had a great stay! The location was excellent, and my family really enjoyed our time in the house. The house is right by the beach, our favorite thing was being able to walk to the beach at night with the family including my two young girls. The host Joe, was spectacular. He was very attentive and responsive to any questions I had and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. One important thing to know is that you must have a true 4WD vehicle to access the area. We also enjoy the 8 miles drive on the beach from the main road.”
“This part of OBX is really neat to experience. The horses are the coolest and we loved not having to walk to the beach or carry anything. We just packed up the car and drove there. The house was great and exactly as advertized, it was very clean, fully stocked kitchen and the beds were comfy! Joe was very helpful with any questions we had and would definitely book again.”

“Absolutely amazing stay we loved every minute of it great location especially if your wanting the off road beach experience I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for adults and kids even the pool was perfect especially for kids it's not to deep but deep enough for everyone to enjoy and relax overall everything was wonderful”
“Joe and company had a great setup. It was me, 5 other adults, and 5 children. Everything was perfectly in line, exactly as described. Joe was fast at responses and gave thorough answers. We couldn't have asked for more, and will be looking to rent from them again in 2027.”

Shades of Murmaids
“Shades of Mermaid was the perfect home for our weeklong stay in Carova. The home is incredibly clean and was well stocked. The layout of the house was perfect and you can catch a beautiful sunrise from three of the four bedrooms. The hot tub was a plus on the cooler evenings. We saw wild horses every day and even found one under the car port enjoying the a/c. Shelby went above and beyond by helping me arrange a surprise floral and wine delivery for my wife to celebrate our anniversary. I would highly recommend this house and look forward to coming back again.”
“My family spent the week at Shades of Mermaids and had an awesome time. The house was very clean, kitchen has all the amenities, and Shelby was quick to respond if we had a question or needed a recommendation. We saw wild horses, dolphins and other wildlife everyday. If you are looking for a unique vacation experience, if you want a little adventure exploring the beaches and sand dunes on your own, then 4x4 beaches in Carova are a great choice.”
